Spotlight - Marked fur Murder

Today I'd like to shine a spotlight on a recently released book. Marked fur Murder by Dixie Lyle is the third in the Whiskey, Tango & Foxtrot Mystery series.

From the back cover:

Deirdre "Foxtrot" Lancaster returns-with her animal companions-for-life Whiskey and Tango-to fish for clues on the other side of death...

When zillionairess Zelda Zoransky decides to throw one of her famous parties-with a guest list as colorful and diverse as her private zoo-it's up to Dierdre "Foxtrot" Lancaster, assistant extraordinaire, to pull the whole thing off. But even with the help of her telepathic cat Tango and ectoplasmic pooch Whiskey, it's one killer assignment. Especially when she finds a corpse in the pool...

Marked fur Murder

The victim is the sister of Dierdre's boyfriend, Ben. The cause of death appears to be a plugged-in hair dryer that fell in the water. Ben, however, insists that a few volts couldn't have killed Anna. Like him, she's a descendant of the Cowichan tribe who, according to legend, has a way with lightening. One of the guests must have marked her for murder! But when the suspects include a Russian pet psychic, a schizophrenic writer, and a random rock star, it's more than puzzling to Whiskey, Tango, and Foxtrot. It's electrifying...

Shopping Challenge Results

You may remember a shopping challenge I made for myself on March 28th. (You can refresh your memory here, if you'd like.) Briefly, I would wander throughout a bookstore and buy 5 books, only one being a mystery. I chose the following genres: Mystery (I just have to have one), Local History, New Age/Religion, Food, and TBD. The TBD turned out to be Psychology. So, what did I get?

The Mystery: Marked Fur Murder by Dixie Lyle. The 3rd in the Whiskey, Tango, & Foxtrot Mystery series. I love this truly unique, funny, paranormal series and was happy to pick out the latest addition which was released this April.

Local History: The Glory Days of Buffalo Shopping by Michael F. Rizzo. A neat book with lots of photos and graphics regarding stores and shopping in Buffalo, NY's past.

New Age/Religion: Isis in America by Henry Steel Olcott. This book was originally published in 1895 as Old Diary Leaves Volume 1. It's part of Olcott's memoirs and this book talks about his dealings with Madame Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, one of the most fascinating figures in the early days of Spiritualism in America. (Religion and Utopian Societies of the mid 19th century is one of my interests.)

Food: Consider the Fork: A History of How We Cook and Eat by Bee Wilson. This book explores how cooking tools have transformed how we consume and think about food.

Psychology: Whispers: the Voices of Paranoia by Ronald K. Siegel. This book explores paranoia by looking at various case studies encountered by this psychiatrist.

Now, to find time to read these fascinating choices! What about you? Have you tried my challenge? What books did you choose?

Currently Reading...

I'm currently reading A Taste Fur Murder by Dixie Lyle. This book is the first in the Whiskey, Tango, and Foxtrot Mystery series. When I saw this book on the shelf of the bookstore I knew it would be right up my alley. The cover grabbed me with its shades of blue...and a cat..and gravestones... and a full moon. The series title also piqued my interest. Then I read the back cover; "animal lover"..."zillionairess"..."giant ghost beast". Yup, I bought the book. I'm very pleased that I did.

Diedre "Foxtrot" Lancaster works as a Girl Friday for an uber rich eccentric on her estate just outside of New York City. One day something odd happens in the pet cemetery. What was once a nice, peaceful place is suddenly ominous and threatening, and Foxtrot begins to see things. She is soon visited by the reincarnation of her childhood cat, Tango, and an ectoplasmic shape shifting dog who tell her a human's death will put the graveyard, which is a mystical nexus, in danger. So they must stop it!

I love the characters, the storytelling, and the uniqueness of this new series and can't wait to see what happens next!
