What's in a Name - Guest Post & Giveaway

I'd like to welcome Blu Carraway to the blog today. You can find Blu on the pages of the Blu Carraway Mystery series by David Burnsworth. BAD TIME TO BE IN IT is the second book in the series and will be released July 10th.

What's in a Name
By David Burnsworth

My name’s Blu Carraway. I’m a P.I. Well, most days anyway. A guy named David Burnsworth writes my story. He’s been doing it for a couple of years now and gets it mostly right. I work for myself which means I work for clients but I don’t have to split the proceeds—except with my business partner. I’ll get to him in a minute.

My grandfather liked to call me Blu crab. I must have been a fussy baby or something. Lucky for me the nickname didn’t stick except with him. He called me that until the day he died. I miss the old man. He taught me how to fish, shrimp, and crab. His father, my great grandfather, bought a small island south of Folly Beach in the Charleston lowcountry. An out-of-the-box thinker, he liked being surrounded by water. For some reason, all the Carraway men were immune to mosquitoes and no-see-ums. The bugs just don’t bother us. Everyone else who visits has to load up on repellant. Such is life on the coast and especially amongst the marshes and tide pools.

My mother escaped Castro’s Cuba and has been helping people since she got here. Currently my folks are traveling the country, enjoying retirement.

Mick Crome, my business partner, is something else. We fought together in Desert Storm, became Rangers after that, came back to Charleston after being discharged, and went into business. I’m definitely the more stable one. The less strings attached, the better as far as Mick is concerned. It finally got to be too much for him after one unusually scary job we did in Mexico. He didn’t mind the danger, but I think he felt he had to get away and regroup. Like the rest of us, he works for the money, but if he’s going to risk his neck, he’s going to take time to enjoy what he earned. I didn’t see him for three years after that Mexico job.

The best part of my life is Hope, my daughter. Without a doubt the only good thing that came out of the marriage to her mother. But if there was to be only one, I’m glad it was her. She’s twenty-one now and wants to come to work for me. I’m not sure it’s a good idea, especially given the type of work and the danger we encounter.

In BAD TIME TO BE IN IT, someone close is kidnapped. It causes all of us to rethink our priorities. All I can say is I’ve learned not to question evil anymore. Better to put a few nine millimeter rounds through it and call it a day.

About the Book

Mystery 2nd in Series
Henery Press (July 10, 2018) Paperback 254 Pages
The past is never past. Sometimes it repeats itself. And sometimes it comes back to pay a visit. Blu Carraway, flush with cash and back in business, never had it so good. Or so he thought. The reality is his love life is in shambles, his business partner is spending too much time with women half his age and not enough time on the job, and someone close goes missing. Blu’s business partner goes off the rails, his friends show their true colors, and he realizes that getting closure sometimes means walking away from everything. With a case from the past gone wrong twice, a loved one in trouble, and an unanswered marriage proposal, it’s a bad time to be in it for Blu Carraway Investigations.

  4. Hmm, why do you get to live on Sullivan's Island and not me? LOL I love reading books where the theme is set on the South Carolina islands. I go out of my way to look for them! I guess I'll be reading all of yours. Thank you. I'm glad I learned of you.
