Whisper of Treasure and Lies - A Guest Post & Giveaway

I'm pleased to welcome Sandra to Cozy Up With Kathy today. You can find Sandra on the pages of Whisper of Treasure and Lies. This is the third book in the Scandal Mountain Antiques Mystery series and was released earlier this month.

The Secret Backstory Behind Sandra

Hi all, my name is Sandra. In Whisper of Treasure and Lies, antique-dealer Edie Brown is forced to let me join her crew. I’m not saying she doesn’t like me, but she definitely wasn’t planning on adding a dog to her already hectic life. Yes, I am a dog—more precisely a golden retriever. And Edie wasn’t the only one not planning on having a dog appear in the next Scandal Mountain Antiques Mystery book. The author, Trish Esden, was also surprised by this turn of events, though she’s darn happy about it now.

My surprise arrival happened a year ago when Trish had an online contest. The winner got to have a character named after them in the next Scandal Mountain book. The winner’s first name was Sandra. But she didn’t want a new human character named after her. Sandra loves dogs and—as much as she enjoyed reading the series—she thought it could benefit from the addition of a canine character. She didn’t care if the dog was good or a villain. Actually, she preferred the idea of a naughty dog over one that was perfectly behaved. Sandra’s very favorite breed is the golden retriever. It also happens to be Trish’s favorite…And, so I was born.

I hope you enjoyed learning a bit of my backstory.

Licks and kisses,

Sandra

About Whisper of Treasure and Lies

Whisper of Treasure and Lies: (A Scandal Mountain Antiques Mystery)
Traditional Mystery 3rd in Series
Setting - Vermont
Publisher: ‎ Patricia AR Esden (May 5, 2025)
Paperback: 308 pages

Some secrets die with their owners. Others hide in silence, waiting to be set free.

Edie Brown despises the bigwig antique and art dealer Felix Graham. She even suspects he had a hand in her mom being set up for the art forgery charge that sent her to prison. However, when Graham is drugged and robbed after purchasing a valuable antique bottle and a box of local historical items, Edie agrees to hunt down the thieves for him. In payment, she wants one thing: everything Graham knows about her mom being set up—who was involved, how they did it…all the information that could lead to her mom’s freedom.

But the number of possible thieves is as plentiful as the potential motives. Graham’s womanizing ways and slippery business practices barely outweigh the stolen pieces’ rarity and value. As Edie, her uncle Tuck, and enigmatic employee, Kala, dive into the dangerous search, evidence that the crime is tied to the stolen pieces’ history surface. Both the bottle—known as the Glass Widow—and the box of ephemera are related to a tragedy that occurred the night before the grand opening of a Victorian-era hydropathic resort, a shocking fragment of Vermont history that involved a peculiar dowry, concealed murder, and a fire that claimed lives and gutted the lavish resort.

With her mom’s mental health rapidly declining in prison, Edie must fight against the clock to expose the thieves by untangling a mystery with roots that stretch from the Victorian-era to the recent robbery, and perhaps into Edie’s own past as well.

The Body in the Back Garden - An Interview, Excerpt, & Giveaway

I'm pleased to welcome Mark Waddell to Cozy Up With Kathy today. Mark writes the Crescent Cove Mystery series. The Body in the Back Gardens is the first book in the series and will be released next week.

Kathy: Out-of-work investigative journalist Luke Tremblay travels from Toronto to Crescent Cove, a small hamlet on Vancouver Island in the first Crescent Cove Mystery. Why choose this small hamlet across the country for your series?

MW: I started writing The Body in the Back Garden shortly after moving to Vancouver Island, a beautiful little paradise off Canada’s west coast, and I decided to set the book in my new home. Crescent Cove is a fictional town that exemplifies so many places here on the island—it’s full of friendly people and surrounded by stunning examples of natural beauty. At the same time, like Canada itself, it’s a diverse and inclusive place where everyone is welcome.

Kathy: Luke inherits his aunt's estate, including her seaside cottage and the antiques shop. Do you enjoy antiques and/or antiquing?

MW: Antiques are like little windows into the lives of people in the past, and as someone who worked as a history professor for many years, that really resonates with me. Every object has a story attached to it. I’m not an antiques expert by any means, but I certainly did my research when I wrote those scenes in the antiques shop!

Kathy: The Body in the Back Garden is a quozy mystery. While there have certainly been queer characters in cozies before, there is more recently a specific subgenre specifically for cozy mysteries whose main characters are queer. Do you prefer this delineation or would you rather it be known as just a cozy?

MW: Words like “queer” might make some potential readers uncomfortable, but I think it’s important to claim some space within such a popular and, sometimes, overcrowded genre. There are lots of people who don’t read cozies because they assume they won’t find themselves reflected in these stories. I want queer readers and their allies to know that this really is a genre for everyone.

Kathy: What first drew you to cozy mysteries?

MW: As a kid, I fell in love with the stories written by Agatha Christie. I also watched a lot of Murder, She Wrote. I have such fond memories of watching Mystery! on PBS and seeing my favorite stories brought to life. (To this day, the only Miss Marple I will acknowledge is the incomparable Joan Hickson.) Eventually, I began reading more widely in the genre. I love the juxtaposition of quaint, idyllic settings with brutal murder, and I have a real soft spot for the plucky amateur sleuth who relies on intuition and instinct rather than training and procedure.

Kathy: Do you write in any other genres?

MW: Apart from mysteries, the genre I love the most is fantasy. I’ve recently finished writing a darkly humorous fantasy story that I hope will land on shelves someday in the future.

Kathy: Tell us about your series.

MW: The Crescent Cove Mysteries follow Luke Tremblay, an out-of-work investigative reporter who has returned to the seaside village he loved as a child. In doing so, he finds everything he was lacking—a real home, close friends, even the prospect of true love—along with a surprising number of dead bodies.

Kathy: Do you have a favorite character? If so, who and why?

MW: Luke is something of a surrogate for myself, so I do have a certain fondness for him. Deep down, though, my favorite is Jack Munro, Luke’s childhood friend who is now in charge of the local RCMP detachment. Jack is a complex character who suffered racist abuse growing up in Crescent Cove and is now determined to make the town a better place than the one he knew. He’s calm, extremely competent, and of course he looks amazing in a Mountie’s dress uniform.

Kathy: Did you have a specific inspiration for your series?

MW: Not really. The series leans into many of the familiar tropes from the cozy genre and is really a homage to many different stories. Geographically, though, I do take a lot of inspiration from life here on Vancouver Island.

Kathy: What made you decide to publish your work?

MW: I’ve wanted to write and publish stories since I was a kid. I got a little sidetracked by a twenty-year career in academia, but once I retired, I decided to give this a try.

Kathy: If you could have a dinner party and invite 4 authors, living or dead, in any genre, who would you invite?

MW: Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, together, would be a hilarious duo with hours of fascinating stories between them. Oscar Wilde, of course, would be the most entertaining person I’ve ever met. And Margaret Atwood’s incisive and wry perspective on things would leave us all simultaneously inspired and humbled.

Kathy: What are you currently reading?

MW: I’ve just finished The Grimoire of Kensington Market by Lauren B. Davis, a lovely reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen. It’s dark and sad and also very beautiful. Now I’m diving into the latest book from TJ Klune, In the Lives of Puppets. The first couple of chapters have me excited to read more.

Kathy: Will you share any of your hobbies or interests with us?

MW: I adore classical music, especially from the Baroque period, and I play the viola in the Civic Orchestra of Victoria. I’m also a lifelong nerd and geek. I’m fascinated by cosmology in particular, but I love learning obscure things from the realms of philosophy, science, history…you name it, I can find something interesting in it. As well, I enjoy roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons, where I’ve been known to hurl a fireball or two.

Kathy: Name 4 items you always have in your fridge or pantry.

MW: Good bread, chocolate, kombucha, and sriracha.

Kathy: Do you have plans for future books either in your current series or a new series?

MW: I always have plans for future books! I’ve already written book 2 in the Crescent Cove series, a fantasy story is currently with my agent, and I’m now plotting a thriller based in the history of alchemy and magic, which I studied and taught for many years as an academic.

Kathy: What's your favorite thing about being an author?

MW: I love the experience of watching ideas flow out of my brain and onto the screen. Half the time, even I don’t know what’s going to come out!

About The Body in the Garden

The Body in the Back Garden (A Crescent Cove Mystery)
Queer Cozy ("Quozy") Mystery
1st in Series
Setting - The fictional town of Crescent Cove on Vancouver Island, Canada
Crooked Lane Books (August 22, 2023)
Hardcover: ‎ 272 pages

In this queer cozy series debut perfect for fans of Ellen Byron and Ellery Adams, Luke Tremblay is about to discover that Crescent Cove has more than its fair share of secrets…and some might be deadlier than others.

Crescent Cove, a small hamlet on Vancouver Island, is the last place out-of-work investigative journalist Luke Tremblay ever wanted to see again. He used to spend summers here, until his family learned that he was gay and rejected him. Now, following his aunt’s sudden death, he’s inherited her entire estate, including her seaside cottage and the antiques shop she ran for forty years in Crescent Cove. Luke plans to sell everything and head back to Toronto as soon as he can…but Crescent Cove isn’t done with him just yet.

When a stranger starts making wild claims about Luke’s aunt, Luke sends him packing. The next morning, though, Luke discovers that the stranger has returned, and now he’s lying dead in the back garden. To make matters worse, the officer leading the investigation is a handsome Mountie with a chip on his shoulder who seems convinced that Luke is the culprit. If he wants to prove his innocence and leave this town once and for all, Luke will have to use all his skills as a journalist to investigate the colorful locals while coming to terms with his own painful past.

There are secrets buried in Crescent Cove, and the more Luke digs, the more he fears they might change the town forever.

Excerpt from The Body in the Back Garden

The drive back to the cottage took no more than five minutes, and when I got there, I found a Jeep Wrangler with RCMP markings waiting for me. My heart sank. I really didn’t want a third encounter with the police today.

With some reluctance, I trudged around the side of the cottage and found Jack Munro waiting for me, brawny arms folded across his tactical vest as he gazed out at the sea. My heart sank even further, but also fluttered a little as well. I had no idea how to behave around him now that I knew he was my old friend.

As I approached, shoes crunching on the stone path, he turned to face me. I paused. Jack looked mad. His square jaw was clenched and his eyebrows were drawn downwards in a fierce glower.

Uh oh.

“We need to talk,” he informed me, and I nodded jerkily after a moment’s hesitation.

“Sure. Okay. Do you want to come inside?”

With a shake of his head, Jack then advanced towards me until he was close enough that I had to look up into his face. “I want to know why you lied to me.”

I had to work moisture back into my mouth before I could reply. “What do you mean?”

“I spoke with Aleesha Perkins.” At my blank stare, he added, “Her mom runs the greengrocers in town. She delivered some groceries here yesterday.”

Oh yeah. I nodded again, mutely.

“Aleesha claims that she witnessed you assault Joel Mackenzie and then threaten him.” Jack’s resonant baritone was tight with anger. “Is that true?”

“I wouldn’t say assault, exactly,” I hedged. “I did push him, that’s true.”

“She says you pushed him off the front porch and that he landed on his back on the ground.”

“Uh. Yes.” Jack’s eyes narrowed and I added hurriedly, “But he provoked me. He called my aunt a thief and said she got what was coming to her. I…I got upset and pushed him harder than I intended.”

“And then threatened him.”

“No!” I protested. “No, I just told him that if he came back here he’d regret it.” I paused. “Okay. That sounds bad, I admit. But I didn’t mean anything by it. It wasn’t a threat.”

Jack said nothing. His features, familiar and yet not, were completely blank.

On a rising tide of panic, I reached out involuntarily and grasped his forearm. “Jack, please. Please believe me. I did not kill Joel Mackenzie. I didn’t see him again until I found his body this morning. I know how this looks, but…”

Jack stepped back from me, breaking my hold on his arm. “You assaulted and threatened a man who later turned up dead on your property, Luke.” His voice was cool now, dispassionate. “And you have no alibi for last night. How this looks is extremely bad for you.”

My feeling of panic increased as I stared up at him. “But you know me. You know I would never—”

He cut me off with brutal finality. “I used to know you. I’m not sure I do anymore.”

I had no response to that. There was nothing left to say. My panic slowly subsided, leaving hurt and fear in its wake.

A deep silence fell between us. Waves crashed in the distance and gulls screeched overhead. “Is there anything else you want to tell me?” he finally asked. “Because if there is anything, you need to tell me now.”

I shook my head once. “There isn’t anything,” I said, barely able to speak through the tightness in my throat.

He nodded without taking his eyes off me. “I strongly advise you to stay put here at the cottage while we continue our investigation.”

I said nothing, and after a long pause Jack brushed past me as he headed back to his Jeep. I watched him go with something close to despair.

I was now the only suspect in a murder, and the person in charge of investigating that murder clearly disliked me. I wanted to trust that Jack would figure out who the killer was rather than pin this on me, but given our recent interactions, that seemed far from certain. If I didn’t want to end up in prison, there was only one option left.

I needed to solve this myself.

Copper Waters - An Interview & Giveaway

I'm happy to welcome Marlene M. Bell to Cozy Up With Kathy today. Marlene writes the New Zealand Cottage Mystery series. Copper Waters is the fourth book in the series.

Kathy: Annalisse Drury is an antiquities expert. Do like antiques? Do you have a favorite time period?

MMB: Yes! I do like antiques. There were a couple of years we didn’t have sheep to take care of and could travel during the early 1980s. My husband and I took a cross-country driving vacation in search of antiques from the Northwest throughout the Midwestern states. (Specifically looking for curved glass hutches.) We brought back two different versions.

My favorite time period is the Victorian Era, 1837 – 1901 because the furniture was more ornate.

Kathy: In Copper Waters Annalisse travels to New Zealand. Why choose the South Island for this mystery?

MMB: I chose the Temuka area of New Zealand due to the sheep stations. There are a few stations on the North Island, but the majority of the working stations are located on the larger body of land. The crime takes place on a sheep station, and if I were to travel to New Zealand personally, I’d visit that portion of the country. We considered going to a sheep station for a honeymoon, but the cost was prohibitive as was the three weeks away that we needed for such a long trip.

Kathy: What first drew you to crime fiction?

MMB: “Write what you know.” I love a good mystery, especially those produced for a British audience. The only problem with UK mystery stories is the slow, lumbering way they move and how long the story can draw out to an ending. My mysteries twist and turn, but do this quickly in a conversational style. I’m an avid reader of all kinds of mysteries.

Kathy: Do you write in any other genres?

MMB: Yes! My series books cover a wide range and might be considered cross-genre to some. Book one, Stolen Obsession, is heaviest in Romantic Suspense between the main players, Annalisse Drury and Alec Zavos. Book two begins the changeover to stronger in suspense and mystery with a little romance. Books three and four concentrate more in the realm of international mystery with Annalisse and Alec trying to find their way as a couple.

In 2020, I released my illustrated children’s book, Mia and Nattie: One Great Team! in eBook and hardcover. Later in March 2023, I added a paperback version that’s become quite popular. https://tinyurl.com/2p83mkut The Mia and Nattie book is based on the true story of the bottle lamb we raised in the laundry room, and how she became a part of the family with a job in the flock.

Kathy: Tell us about your series.

MMB: An antiquities expert lands in the middle of mystery and mayhem that knows no country boundaries. Trouble awaits a worldly couple as they uncover clues to a myriad of murders by villains of all types. Appearances are deceiving.

In the first four books, Annalisse and Alec travel to several countries. Greece and Turkey from their home turf of New York, in addition to Southern Italy and New Zealand with New England somewhere in the middle. Imagine the smells and sounds of a particular place, quiet and secluded or bustling with crowds. It’s my job to make readers believe they are at the scene as a witness watching everything play out in front of them. The Annalisse series covers some places I’ve never been to in person. To write realistic scenes and descriptions, I get my information from those who have actually been to these locations.

Kathy: Do you have a favorite character? If so, who and why?

MMB: The character I find the easiest to write is the detective friend in the series, Bill Drake. Throughout three books, he’s the mediator between main characters, Annalisse and Alec. He’s also the experienced sleuth who keeps the amateur detective, Annalisse, from getting into predicaments too deeply. Readers are drawn to Bill and have asked me to write a spin-off series with him and his partner. It’s possible he’ll have a larger role in upcoming books because of his popularity, and because his character seems to flow on the paper as I write.

Kathy: Did you have a specific inspiration for your series?

MMB: What began as a woman’s fiction romance of one standalone book, has changed to the international series due to adding too many subplots to Stolen Obsession and getting the all-important reader feedback. In my case, all reviews on that first book have been a blessing, both good and bad. You could say that my first book turned out to be the learning curve. I had so many genres going on, I had to decide what kind of book I wanted to write. Readers of romance didn’t want the mystery elements and hard-core mystery readers didn’t want any part of a romance between Anna and Alec. Book one released in 2018 and it was reworked in the summer of 2022 to the best form of “happy medium” for all readers.

Kathy: What made you decide to publish your work?

MMB: How would the author know if their work was good enough for the masses if the work wasn’t published? I wanted to know if this artist and photographer, (it’s also what I do,) could also translate over to a decent writer, and how difficult it would be. I found out quickly that writing isn’t for the faint of heart, and there are rules…lots of rules. It takes dedication, editing, and rewriting with only the best help by your side in order to succeed.

Kathy: If you could have a dinner party and invite 4 authors, living or dead, in any genre, who would you invite?

MMB: Agatha Christie, Louise Penny, Shana Abe, and Karen Rose

Kathy: What are you currently reading?

MMB: Murder at Kensington Palace (A Wrexford & Sloan mystery)

Kathy: Will you share any of your hobbies or interests with us?

MMB: Since the age of 6, I’ve sketched and painted, and been involved in all things in the art world. I love wildlife photography and taking pictures of our Horned Dorset breeding sheep. My photos have been published in several sheep magazines, especially while we were showing our sheep at county fairs and national sales throughout the country. I use these talents in my company catalog (Since 1985) and online at Ewephoric.us. I began writing in my 50’s. Much later. There are a few other interests on a much smaller scale like rug hooking in the wool made from our sheep.

Kathy: Name 4 items you always have in your fridge or pantry.

MMB: Cat food, pasta, homemade tomato sauce, and salad dressing

Kathy: Do you have plans for future books either in your current series or a new series?

MMB: Yes! I’ve started a new book unrelated to the Annalisse series. It’s a standalone mystery with a completely different set of characters. Once the new book is published, I’ll get back to Book #5 in the current series. The title is a secret!

Kathy: What's your favorite thing about being an author?

MMB: I like a challenge! Writing is out in left-field for me because I thought artwork would be how the public might eventually come to know me. My sheep art and photography are too narrow a field, I realized. There are many more readers than art collectors, too! All of my pastimes involve quiet time and being alone to create. Even though I never dreamed I’d be writing books, ever, I love immersing myself into other worlds in make believe point of views.

Fake Death - A Guest Post, Review, & Giveaway

I'm pleased to welcome Victoria Tait to Cozy Up With Kathy today. Victoria writes the Dotty Sayers Antique Mystery series. FAKE DEATH is the first book in the series and was released last week.

Can the Main Character work alone in a Cozy Mystery?
By Victoria Tait

Ask a reader who their favourite amateur sleuth is, and you’ll receive answers such as Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple and Poirot, Elizabeth Peters’ Amelia Peabody or Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum.

But even the famous Sherlock Holmes did not work alone. Watson, who narrates the stories, may be modest about his role, but he is a sounding board and a way for dialogue and Holmes’ emotions and idiosyncrasies to be portrayed. Even the minor role of the Baker Street Irregulars, a group of street urchins who run errands, now have their own series on Netflix.

While planning my new Dotty Sayers Antique Mystery series, I read, or rather listened to, the BBC dramatisation of Dorothy L. Sayers’ books featuring Lord Peter Wimsey. The British actor, Ian Carmichael, was fantastic as Lord Peter, but it is the other characters which really bring the stories to life.

My favourite is Lord Peter’s mother, the Dowager Duchess of Denver – Patricia Routledge, who played another amateur detective, Hetty Wainthropp, performed the role to perfection – is dismissed by most yet she comes across as intelligent and quickwitted.

If the lead detective or amateur sleuth diligently moves from one clue to the next on their own, the story would be dull. Anthony Horowitz is clever in his books featuring ex-Detective Daniel Hawthorne as he casts himself as the detective’s sidekick and there is oodles of tension between them, as Horowitz does not like Hawthorne but can’t help admire him.

Most cozy mysteries are set in small towns or villages and centre around a business, such as a bakery, a bookshop or in my case, an auction house and antiques centre. This enables an author to write a cast of diverse characters who add humour, tension and often, a love interest.

I have to be careful when I introduce new characters, and think carefully about their names, mannerisms and appearance. I’ve discovered that those I only intend to have minor roles elbow their way into more prominent parts as a series progresses.

I would go as far as saying that the readers now expect a team element to stories. They see it in the movies and TV shows, like the extremely popular NCIS, where the main character is Gibbs, but we only experience his personality by the way he interacts with members of his team. We even become invested in the team’s side stories.

In cozy mysteries, animals, whether talking or not, are often companions to the central character and my heroine, Dotty, adopts a British blue cat. I can use their relationship to add side stories and depth.

I love writing cozy mysteries and while I concentrate on developing the heroine, I have so much fun writing all the other characters. I hope you can see this in Fake Death and other stories in the Dotty Sayers Antique Mystery series.

Review

FAKE DEATH by Victoria Tait
The First Dotty Sayers Antiques Mystery

Recovering from a head injury, Dottie Sayers is happy to be working at Akemans Auction House. Reluctantly, she agrees to take part of a Remembrance Parade honoring her late husband and all soldiers who died in the line of duty. Shocked when the body of a soldier is found after the parade, Dottie soon realizes she recognizes the man. As she assists the auction house in appraising items, she winds up discovering that the man was not who he appeared to be. Will Dottie be able to put the pieces together and solve the mystery?

FAKE DEATH is a perplexing mystery. As I started to read I soon became confused. Dottie's head injury was continually mentioned, as was the attack that caused it. But what attack? By whom? I thought I had made an error and started this series a book or so in, but no, this was the first in the series. Indeed for most of the book I felt as if I was missing something important.

Dotty acts more like a victim than a protagonist. She appears meek and subservient to pretty much everyone. I really liked Sarah and hoped she'd help Dottie come into her own.  The story itself was interesting. I quite liked how the identities of the victim were revealed and Dottie's growing realizations as to what was going on. I loved Norman and Earl Grey and was captivated by the Duke's story.

FAKE DEATH highlights appearances and honor in a Cotswold mystery.

Dotty assists the police and appraises objects found at the victim’s house, but rather than identifying the deceased, she discovers numerous personas. When a suspect is arrested, and Dotty is asked to look after Earl Grey, a British Blue cat, she realizes appearances can be deceiving. Can she track down the real culprit and prevent an innocent man from being imprisoned?

Can Dotty unmask the killer without putting her own life at risk?

Fake Death is the first book in the captivating Dotty Sayers Antique Mystery series. If you like intriguing mysteries, entertaining characters and the glorious British countryside, then you’ll adore Victoria Tait’s enthralling tale.

About Victoria Tait

I was born and raised in Yorkshire, UK, and never expected to travel the world. But I fell for an Army Officer, and I’ve followed him from Northern Ireland, up to the Scottish Highlands, across to Africa and the Kenyan Savannah, back to the British Cotswolds, and we are now living in Sarajevo, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Southern Europe. I never expected to be an author, but all this moving is not ideal for holding down a job. Instead, I’ve taken the experiences of the places I’ve lived to write vivid and evocative cozy mystery books with determined female sleuths. I have two fast-growing teenage boys, and together we’ve learnt to ski on the Bosnian mountains. I also enjoy horse riding, mountain biking and I’ve started running as a way to improve my physical fitness, mental wellbeing and shed some excess pounds.

When Old is New - A Guest Post & Giveaway

I'm pleased to welcome Sam Cheever back to the blog today. Sam writes the Yesterday's Mysteries. Yesterday's Tears is the fifth book in the series and will be released tomorrow.

When Old is New

I’m going to tell you a guilty secret…I love HGTV. Shhhhh! Don’t tell anybody. *grin* My favorite show is Fixer Upper because I absolutely love the way Joanna Gaines decorates a home. She uses a pleasing mix of old and new that speaks to my soul.

Antiques and retro pieces mixed with spankin’ new furnishings. I love this mix. It’s like today and yesterday holding hands.

That’s kind of how I decorate my house. Not, of course, with Joanna’s flare. But my taste runs the same. I intersperse shabby chic and well-worn antiques with a new(ish) leather couch and contemporary tables. Am I confused? LOL Maybe. In fact, it’s very likely. But that’s not why I do it.

I truly believe that antiques carry with them an energy from the times they lived through. There’s a special magic infused in their aged cells…a history that makes me want to take them under my wing and treat them with care.

At the same time, I love clean, contemporary lines and modern amenities. And I think it’s okay to meld the two. I think it works. Yin and Yang, happy Feng shui and all that.

This is the thinking that spawned my Yesterday’s Mysteries series. Anna Yesterday’s antiques shop is ground zero for so much from the past. But the shop has its feet firmly planted in the present. Anna and her employee Pratt Davies find and solve mysteries tucked within the antiques, and they use an entertaining mix of spirits from the past to help them. These mysteries might be straight out of the pages of history, but like Yesterday’s Antiques, they also exist in the present.

Yesterday and today holding hands. Maybe smacking each other around a little

Now doesn’t that sound like a recipe for pure entertainment!

xx

Yesterday's Tears (Yesterday's Paranormal Mysteries) by Sam Cheever

About the Book

Paranormal Mystery/Women Sleuths
5th in Series
Electric Prose Publications (September 28, 2018)
Print Length - Approximately 200 pages
It might be a murder from decades ago, but it still has its claws in the present…and someone seems determined to drag Anna into it.
It’s way too soon to be returning to a haunted mansion, and Anna’s favorite cowboy ghost does his best to talk her out of it. But the opportunity to pick from the beautiful antiques left to her in a Crocker resident’s will is just too tempting for Anna and Pratt to pass up. So they’re going in…
They’re prepared to deal with a few cold spots. Maybe the occasional flickering light. But what Anna and the boys weren’t counting on was bumping up against the ghost of Josiah Bumgartner, a contemporary of Joss’ from the 1800s. And when Josiah claims the old woman who lived in the house hid his bones around the place, Anna agrees to help him find them. But something much darker is at work there. And, unfortunately for our happy little gang of antique hunters…Anna seems to have unwittingly stepped right into the middle of it.

About the Author

Let’s face it, nobody really cares that Sam Cheever is a USA Today Bestselling Author. Nobody cares that she’s written a whole ton of fun and snappy books. Let’s face it, the most interesting thing about Sam is the fact that she’s a dogaholic. Yeah, there’s no Dogaholic’s Anonymous chapter that can help her. Believe me, she’s looked. So Sam deals with her problem the best way she knows how. She digs into the mountains of personal experiences (mostly involving dog poo) to write GREAT dog characters.

Oh, and there are some people in her books too. She’s also pretty good at those.
Want to ask Sam about her dogs…erm…books? You can connect with her at one of the following places. Just don’t ask her why she has 15 dogs. Nobody in the whole wide world can answer that.
