I'm pleased to welcome Trixie Silvertale to Cozy Up With Kathy today. Trixie writes the Christmas Catastrophe Mystery series. Apple Dumpling Murder is the second book in the series and will be released October 1, 2024.
Kathy: Cindy Claus enjoys exploring the human world as much as she loves to bake, but in Apple Dumpling Murder, her baking dreams may be crushed as her patron dies. If you were Santa's daughter, do you think you'd prefer living in the human world?
TS: I think I would! It would be such an adventure to leave everything I'd ever known behind and sneak into the human world.
Kathy: Are you a baker like Cindy? What's your favorite thing to bake, or if you don't bake, your favorite bakery item to eat?
TS: I am an avid baker. I've set a rule in place that if I want a sweet treat, I have to make it myself... needless to say; I learned everything I could about baking in a big hurry. I tend to get a specific hankering — different ones — and then bake that item. Cookies, scones, cake, baklava, even the occasional chocolate pudding (the American version) - LOL
Kathy: Why choose a Christmas theme for your series?
TS: The holidays bring folks together. I love that idea and wanted Santa's daughter to land in a Christmas-y feeling place.
Kathy: Does adding a paranormal aspect to your mysteries make them more fun to write?
TS: Absolutely! It's so much fun to have talking animals, ghosts, and a little elf magic to add dimension to the story.
Kathy: What first drew you to cozy mysteries?
TS: Mysteries are a personal favorite. I've been reading them since I was a little girl. Something about the puzzles that have to be solved always pulls me into the tale. Do you write in any other genres? Currently, I only write paranormal cozy mysteries. That's enough for now... but who knows what the future holds?
Kathy: Tell us about your series.
TS: If you like kind-hearted heroines, furry sidekicks, and a dash of mistletoe magic, then you’ll love Trixie Silvertale’s festive paranormal cozy Christmas Catastrophe Mysteries!
Kathy: Do you have a favorite character? If so, who and why?
TS: I'm a huge fan of Artikoa! I love talking animals and Ive always dreamed of having an exotic pet. :)
Kathy: Did you have a specific inspiration for your series?
TS: Not specific, but I love watching Hallmark holiday movies and I hope I bring that energy to the capers in Silver Shoals.
Kathy: What made you decide to publish your work?
TS: For me, there was never any question about publishing. The joy of writing comes from hearing from happy fans who've enjoyed a brief escape into one of my mysteries.
Kathy: If you could have a dinner party and invite 4 authors, living or dead, in any genre, who would you invite?
TS: Frances Hodgson Burnett, Michael Chabon, Agatha Christie, and Dylan Landis. (I have an endless list! This is like picking a favorite pet - LOL)
Kathy: What are you currently reading?
TS: And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
Kathy: Will you share any of your hobbies or interests with us?
TS: I love gardening! I'm also a fan of crafting — things like Sculpey clay, painting, and soap making.
Kathy: Name 4 items you always have in your fridge or pantry.
TS: Chipotle salsa, unbleached flour, diced hatch chilis, and sweetened condensed milk.
Kathy: Do you have plans for future books either in your current series or a new series?
TS: Of course! There will absolutely be another Christmas Catastrophe Mystery in 2025. I also have two books planned in the Harper and Moon Investigations series.
Kathy: What's your favorite thing about being an author?
TS: Setting my own schedule! My second favorite thing is chatting with my characters as though they are real people :)
