Secrets, Songbirds, & Succulents - A Review & Giveaway

 Review

SECRETS, SONGBIRDS, & SUCCULENTS by Iris March
The Third Succulent Sleuth Cozy Mystery

Molly Green and her twin sister May, owners of Patty's Plant Place, are looking forward to the town's  weekend-long festival celebrating the Buckeye Trail. Molly has created living plant arrangements to decorate the community park and the sisters are eagerly anticipating hikes, bird watching, and other fun events. The first hike had barely begun when everyone is forced to turn back as a body was discovered in the ravine just off the trail. Molly is stunned to learn that the victim is Ragan, a graduate student who worked across the way. When the police set sights on their friend, who happens to be Ragan's boss, the sisters vow to prove his innocence.

SECRETS, SONGBIRDS, & SUCCULENTS provides an interesting mystery with some unpleasant characters. There were lots of possible suspects and motives, including a creepy fiance and over eager sister. I like how Molly and her friends come together, not only to solve a mystery, but to have fun and enjoy each other's company.

Each installment in the Succulent Sleuth Cozy Mystery series makes me want to dig in the dirt, plant some plants, and buy a succulent! After reading this entry I also wanted to learn more about the birds in my area. I really enjoy the eco-friendly aspects of this book, from recycling to learning about the nature in our backyard. I was surprised, therefore when the hummingbird food dedicated birders were putting out was described as red. Almost all scientific and nature guides say that red dye is not necessary and can even be harmful. It's best to just use sugar and water.

Grab your bird guide and settle in for a nature themed story. SECRETS, SONGBIRDS, & SUCCULENTS is not just another walk in the park, it's a well plotted mystery filled with interesting characters.
