Steeped in Evil - Review & Giveaway

Review

Steeped in Evil by Laura Childs
The Tea Shop Mystery series #15

Theodosia Browning leaves tea and turns to wine-at least for the fancy new wine reveal at Knighthall Winery. Unfortunately, the opening is marred by murder. The owner's son, and organizer of the event, is found dead...in his own barrel of wine. Pressured by her good friend Drayton she starts asking questions, and is soon driven by her own curiosity to investigate the murder. What exactly was going on at the winery? What is "green alien"? Could it be something even more dangerous than men from outer space?

Laura Childs once again brings us the charming setting of Charleston, South Carolina and its environs with its quaint shops and interesting people. While exploring the new world of wine Theodosia gets involved with a new group of people, people who are not quite what they seem. As readers we learn about wine, as well as tea, as Theo expands her knowledge.

I really enjoyed this book, and not just because I'm an oenophile. Laura Childs pens another solid mystery in this enjoyable, long running series, adding depth to her characters and branching out to keep things interesting. Theo is a likeable protagonist who deals with not only murder, but also runs a successful business, handles friends who can be most difficult at times (I was pleased that I didn't "see" much of Haley in this outing), enjoys a bit of a romance, and always has time for a run with her dog, Earl Grey! I only wish I had her stamina! Steeped in Evil is a great addition to an always enjoyable series.

Recipes are included.

  1. I don't drink wine and I'm afraid I'm a boring tea drinker. I like plain old Orange Pekoe; LOL can't you say Lipton? I haven't started this series yet, but I do have it on my to read list!

  5. More of a wine drinker than tea. Any dry red or white will do, usually Merlot or Chardonnay. Any lemon-flavored hot tea is fine.

  6. Funny, I just ran into this book for the first time earlier today and thought it looked like a lot of fun. Thanks for the chance to win a copy.
I used to drink all sorts of wine but I got too good at it so I gave it up.
My wife is the tea drinker in our family - Triple Leaf Ginger. She orders it online, 10 boxes at a time.

  7. Great comments everyone! I love tea, but generally drink it iced and always unsweetened. I make my own blends at Design a Tea (http://designatea.com/) and also like teas from the Eastern Shore Tea Company Black Raven is my go to blend from them. I love all types of wine as well, but my favorite type is a Gewurztraminer.

For those that haven't started this series yet, the first book is Death by Darjeeling. Tea for Three is an omnibus which includes the first 3 books in the series.
