Girl on the Run
When a fairytale fantasy night becomes a nightmare, Chessa Paxton must run for her life...but will the truth set her free?
Chessa Paxton, an event planner in Lake Tahoe, celebrates a successful night at the Happily Ever After Ball, but her dream quickly becomes a nightmare when she wakes up beside the body of her dead husband. Nauseous and confused, feeling as if she's been drugged, she can't explain to the sheriff why her princess costume is bloodied. With her father already a convicted murderer, she feels invisible shackles ratcheting onto her wrists and ankles. She runs! But she can't escape vivid flashes of memory: a massacre in a meadow; men and women in fairytale costumes; Snow White's dead body shielding her from bullets.
Though Chessa is a former costumer and adept at disguise, she quickly learns that hiding while trying to prove herself innocent is the most difficult task imaginable. Especially when the sheriff wants to throw her in jail and the real killer wants to silence her forever.

An author crossing genre? Depends on how they develop the story. Read just about everything. Fiction and non-fiction. What I don't like is gratuitous garbage. Cussing. Gore and violence. Sex. Sex is between consenting adults and should be in the privacy of their bed room, not be for public consumption. Unless your a pimp. Cussing? I feel like getting them a dictionary and telling them to take a course in their language so they can learn how to talk. Gore and violence? That's fine if your in the army and fighting. And that is where it should stay. Della at deepotter@peoplepc.com
ReplyDeleteDella, you can rest assured that in this suspense, there is no cussing and no gratuitous sex or violence. ~ Daryl

DeleteYes, I like thrillers and I appreciate it when an author ventures into another genre. If I like the author I will pick up the book and that way I am exposed to a new genre that I might not have tried. Thanks for the chance.

ReplyDeleteKay, thanks for the plug! I love early readers reviews. ~ Daryl
DeleteThis is an excellent book. I was lucky enough to read a pdf copy prior to release & absolutely loved it. 5 stars. I think some authors are very successful at crossing genres. If they're good at one & I like the new one they're trying, I'll give them a read. Glad I did with this one. Would love to have a ppbk copy to share.

Pamela, so good to see you here! I'm grateful to all my beta readers! ~ Daryl
DeleteWhile I usually read cozies, I do enjoy "clean" thriller/suspense mysteries too. I find that when an author I love reading ventures into another genre, I usually enjoy that book too. Thanks for the chance to win!

Peggy, yes, that's the word for them. "Clean." Still appropriate for cozy readers, with a different theme and pace. ~ Daryl
ReplyDeletei do like when authors write in multiple genres. I hate it when they use multiple names though. That makes it hard to find new series by an author I like.

I don't mind when authors write in multiple genres and definitely appreciate when they use different names. As an example, take Jayne Ann Krentz. I love her novels as Amanda Quick (historical fiction), but not her Jayne Castle novels (Sci Fi). By using different names, I don't accidentally purchase a novel I will not enjoy. raquel36m(at)gmail(dot)com.
