A Fatal Fall Interview & Giveaway

I'm pleased to welcome Teresa LaRue to the blog today. Teresa writes the Lori Reynolds Mystery series. Fatal Fall is the first book in the series.

Kathy: In Fatal Fall Lori Reynolds gets caught up in many family battles. Did your family ever have any battles?

TL: I don’t remember any major conflicts growing up. My mother and I did have different ideas about my hair and clothes. She wanted me to do something about that stringy hair, and take an interest in what I wore. Once she realized that was a losing cause, she moved on to my sister, who shared her passion for all that stuff.

Kathy: What first drew you to cozy mysteries?

TL: I love the idea of an ordinary person solving crimes through their wits and knowledge of the people and area.

Kathy: Do you write in any other genres?

TL: So far, I’ve only written in the cozy mystery genre, but I’ve been playing around with writing a romantic comedy.

Kathy: Tell us about your series.

TL: Fatal Fall is the first book in the Lori Reynolds mystery series. When her sister takes a fatal fall down the stairs, Lori returns to the home she’s avoided for the past seven years to find her sister’s killer and deal with all the conflict she left behind.

A Talent for Murder is the first book in the Flower Patch mystery series. Kate Spencer, along with her mother and aunt, set out to solve the murder her of her aunt’s nemesis.

Kathy: Do you have a favorite character? If so, who and why?

TL: My favorite character in Fatal Fall is Lori. She has a good heart, an eye for detail, and faces her past without flinching.

Kathy: Did you have a specific inspiration for your series?

TL: I wanted to explore the relationship between sisters. My own sister loves to dress up; I don’t. I love to read; she doesn’t. Yet, there’s a bond between us that can never be broken.

Kathy: What made you decide to publish your work?

TL: I wanted to bring others the same joy I feel when I pick up a book and spend the afternoon lost in its pages.

Kathy: If you could have a dinner party and invite 4 authors, living or dead, in any genre, who would you invite?

TL: The late Phyllis A. Whitney, who is one of my favorite authors. Sue Grafton. I’ve been following her Kinsey Millhone books from the beginning. Diane Mott Davidson, who writes the Goldy Bear culinary series. And Carolyn Hart, who writes the Annie Darling, Bailey Ruth, and Henri O mysteries.

Kathy: What are you currently reading?

TL: Sleeping Lady by Sue Henry.

Kathy: Will you share any of your hobbies or interests with us?

TL: I enjoy gardening, watching movies, and, of course, reading. I used to do a lot of crafts, but not so much anymore.

Kathy: Name 4 items you always have in your fridge or pantry.

TL: The basics: milk, eggs, flour, butter.

Kathy: Do you have plans for future books either in your current series or a new series?

TL: I just finished the second book in the Flower Patch mystery series. In this installment, Kate’s neighbor is the main suspect in her husband’s death. Of course, tracking down his killer isn’t her only problem. She also has to deal with her fiancĂ©’s ex, the ex’s dad, and two renegade relatives (namely, her mother and aunt), who keep landing in trouble.

Kathy: What's your favorite thing about being an author?

TL: Dreaming up new stories.
