Owl be Home for Christmas - A Review

Review

OWL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS by Donna Andrews
The Twenty-Sixth Meg Langslow Mystery

It somehow seems only natural that Meg Langslow winds up managing her grandfather’s conference during a blizzard in Virginia just before Christmas. And what a conference it is. The ornithologists specializing in owls are a lively bunch having a wonderful time, except for one. Dr. Frogmore is the egocentric loudmouth that everybody hates. During the banquet, Frogmore stands and insults everyone, appearing to be in the midst of an apoplectic fit, before he collapses. Did he die by natural causes, or did one of the 200 people at the inn who disliked him finally have enough of the not so good doctor?

Meg and her quirky family always provide lots of humor and this twenty-sixth Meg Langslow mystery is no exception. Having a mystery set at a conference in a five star hotel brings in lots of characters and thus suspects, from hotel employees, conference goers, and guests. My favorite new character is Dr. Green, a lovable absent minded professor and a perfect match for Rose Noire. Combining academic and environmental issues makes for a volatile complex atmosphere and a compelling mystery.

Admittedly, there is a lot of talk about owls, it is an owl conference after all. I find it fascinating to learn about all sorts of subjects, so was delighted to read the detailed information provided, although some readers, like Mrs. Ackley, may balk at the copious amount of bird talk.

OWL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS is a festive fun owl filled holiday adventure. I just hope I don’t have to wait for Owl Fest 2020 to enjoy the next Meg Langslow adventure.
