The Second Destiny Falls Mystery and Magic Book
It's been a month since Hayden arrived in Destiny Falls and despite feeling happy and at home she desperately misses her loved ones in Seattle. Continuing to adjust to her new life, Hayden is given a job as the new editor of an online newspaper for the town. Searching out stories and meeting new people lead Hayden to a strange encounter with the captain of the mysterious ferry. With a plea to meet and dire warnings if she tells anyone Hayden is beyond curious. But before they can meet the captain is found murdered leading Hayden to try to figure out what the woman meant to tell her. Did it have something to do with the ferry and the island no one will talk about? As Hayden tries to learn more about Destiny Falls and its secrets, family and friends are put at risk. Will Hayden lose everything she just gained?
Everything seems a little bit too perfect in Destiny Falls with its gorgeous weather and delightful buildings and landscape that change on a whim, but in the second book in the Destiny Falls Mystery and Magic series Hayden starts to uncover information about the dark side to her new home. Not only was I delighted by her search to uncover the secrets of Destiny Falls, my jaw was hanging open by the final pages.
I like Hayden despite her youthful enthusiasm. While she can be a bit immature, her good heart and curious nature make me root for her. Wisecracking Latifa makes me laugh and I love the addition of Lola as well as how the house responded to her arrival. The bad guys are more silly than sinister, but the danger is real and the unknowns make that danger more worrisome.
THE DISAPPEARANCE OF EMILY is a book about family and secrets in a subtly magical land. The growing family connections, the friendships, and the beautiful setting lured me in and the mysterious secrets yet to be uncovered make me eager for the next installment.
